Creator-Destructor Records is proud to welcome the Inland Empire’s AUDITORY ANGUISH to the label for the November release of their new EP, AFA.
Having brought their crushing blend of death metal-infused metalcore to cities across the West Coast over the past few years, Southern California’s AUDITORY ANGUISH self-released their Tragedies Of Western Existence three-song promo in 2023, followed by the Crime Rituals EP in 2024. Now aligned with Creator-Destructor Records, the band arrives with their new EP, AFA, delivering their most critical material to date. Here, the band’s vast array of influences is infused into a crushing alloy of hardcore/death metal, with everything from Xibalba, Deftones, Trash Talk, and Cannibal Corpse converging to create the DNA of the band’s sound with unrelenting heaviness.
AFA was recorded and mixed at The Pit Recording Studio in Van Nuys, California by Taylor Young (Disgrace, Twitching Tongues, God’s Hate) who also provides additional vocals to “Unrelenting Blade,” while the track “Tierra Santa” features guests from Xibalba offshoot Tzompantli. Mastering was handled by Nick Townsend at Townsend Mastering, and the artwork duties were completed by Rodridgo Morales.
The debut single “Unrelenting Blade” captures AUDITORY ANGUISH’s latest blend of destruction. Vocalist David Montes states, “Lyrically I wanted the song to be set in a medieval timeframe because the main rhythm/riff made me get a medieval feel kind of off bat for whatever reason. I decided to write about conquest in the mentality of a crusader using religion as a scapegoat to wage a war and commit atrocities, much like in the modern day. I was also playing a lot of Elden Ring after work at the time which is where the ‘O death’ line comes from.”
Montes expands, “As a band we put effort into writing music which resonates with us, taking from different personal influences and creating a mixture of what we deem are the best parts. We feel this current body of music is the best we’ve put out, and we proudly present it, we hope it resonates with others the same way it does with us.”
